Working Principle & Sedimentation Process

A mineral thickener is a continuous liquid-solid separation machine designed for slurry dewatering, concentrate thickening, and tailings management. Operating on the principle of gravity sedimentation, it separates fine solid particles from liquid through a highly optimized three-stage process:

1. Slurry Feeding & Flocculation

The raw mineral slurry enters the central feed well, where an automated flocculant dosing system injects coagulants. The polymer flocculants bind fine suspended particles into larger aggregates (flocs), significantly accelerating the settling rate compared to natural gravity precipitation.

2. Sedimentation & Mechanical Raking

As the solid particles rapidly settle to the bottom of the tank, slowly rotating thickener rakes continuously scrape the concentrated sludge toward the central discharge cone. Integrated PLC torque sensors monitor sludge density and trigger an automatic rake lifting mechanism if overloading occurs to prevent clogging.

3. Underflow Discharge & Overflow Water Recovery

During heavy ore thickening or sudden power outages, high-density sludge can accumulate at the bottom, creating extreme torque on the rakes.
